Defending Champions Start Their Route to Defence

Defending Singapore League Cup Champions, Etoile FC, will take on Home United in the FIRST Quarter-finals of the 2011 edition of the League Cup. The French team, despite much hatred from local fans, are transforming the hatred into results on the pitch with some solid showing after the shock 1-2 loss to Young Lions.

Following the impressive 2-0 win over Home United, the Stars carried on the fine form with a 3-0 textbook victory over the Tigers. But what was more impressive would be the 3-2 comeback win that made Mike Wong fumed, and the Bedok faithful shaking their heads in disbelief. The loss was so bad that the emcee of the day did not even mention the name of the 3rd goalscorer for Etoile FC (which was Nordine Talhi).

On Thursday, Home United would be without Qiu Li (Ultras love him), Lionel Lewis, Jumaat Jantan and Shi Jiayi to National Team commitments. Etoile FC, though, would have a full team to choose from, though Theo Raymond might be given a much needed rest after suffering from illness that resulted in his substitution.

It remains to be seen if Hadama and Serge will play a part in this tie, having served and completed their suspension, and if fringe players like Moulin and Blanpin (who had a good run of games recently) would start. But whatever the starting XI from both teams, a great encounter can be expected of 2 teams that are in form.

One familiar face that would be starting would be Frederic Mendy, having had a quiet game when he last visited the Home of the Stars - Queenstown Stadium. With the inclusion of Mr Hicham Moudden as the new Club Chairman, the morale of the team had certainly raised few notches, but it remains to be seen if this morale and new self-belief would see the Stars emerging as Winners and book a spot in the Semi-Final of the Singapore League Cup, as the Stars defend their League Cup that they won against Woodlands Wellington (3-1) last time out.

Our Pick: Etoile FC 3 Home United 1
