The Clash of the Current and Ex-Occupants at Queenstown Stadium

Old meets New in the Singapore Cup Clash - as Stars look to win the only trophy that is currently missing in their cabinet.

Post Sidney Govou, the Stars will clash with the Jaguars in the preliminary round of the Singapore Cup. Etoile FC had finished 3rd in last season's edition of the Singapore Cup, bowing out to eventual winners Bangkok Glass FC. This is also, currently, the only trophy that is missing in the cabinet of Etoile FC, having won the League Cup and Singapore League title in their debut season last year.

The Jaguars had lost 3-0 in their only encounter with the Stars on 22nd March 2011 at the Queenstown Stadium. On that day, Hicham Bouchemlal scored on his S-League debut, together with Jonathan Toto, and Nordine Talhi added the 3rd with a cross-cum-shoot goal that caught goalie Ng Jia Fa.

However, the Jaguars then is a different kettle of fish if results are anything to go by. SAFFC drew 2-2 after seeing themselves 2-1 down, while Home United were trailing against them in the first half. One saving grace for the Stars is that Hyun Jong Woon may not feature in this game (transfer to Woodlands Wellington) while we are unsure if Cyril Bagnost and Taufiq Rahmat would be cleared in time for this clash against the Stars.

However, with the form that Etoile FC have, and the prolonged enforcement of a 2 weeks rest in mind, Arena's charges should and must wrap this game up by half-time, if they want to defy 'cup romance' in this encounter. With Jonathan Toto, Maxime Belouet and Co looking good in training, the Ultras will be surprised if the Stars cannot win this game.

Our Pick: Etoile FC 4 Tanjong Pagar 1

*Serge Souchon and Hadam Bathily would not be allowed to take part in this game or be present in the technical area during the game due to on-going inquiry by the Disciplinary Committee.*

Allez Etoile, Allez Fairplay, Allez Allez Allez...
